London Calling!

Nothing is quite like traveling to rejuvenate the soul and get creative juices flowing. I just returned from a fun girlfriend trip to London and here are some of the great scenes of London in November. Harrod's windows were all done up for a Crystal Christmas and the Privy Gardens at Hampton Court Palace were exquisite.

The British celebrated Remembrance Day, like our Veteran's Day, while we were there. Wooden poppy crosses with loved one's name were placed at each squadron's plaque all around Westminster Abbey. Everyone wore a poppy on their lapel.

Preparations Begin for the New Ruby Location on Union Street!

Yes the rumors are true, Ruby is opening another location at 1525 Union St. in San Francisco. We are excited that preparation has begun and we are in the paint color selection mode now! We have ordered many beautiful new products from Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams, Verellen, Hickory Chair, Barclay Butera and many others. We cannot wait to begin decorating the new space! There will be beautiful lighting choices from Ralph Lauren, Visual Comfort, Jamie Young and Arteriors as well as Tibetan rugs, artwork and accessories.

The neighborhood is vibrant and alive with activity with many great designers in the area so it should be a very good venture for us. Many new neighbors are already stopping by to welcome us so we know it will be a great neighborhood. We hope to be open in early November and will keep you all posted on the progress!

My Inspiration for the Day!

These rooms in a newly decorated New York apartment give me inspiration today! I guess because I am a sucker for 40's vintage lighting and the touch of luxury. Love the chairs covered in a Kravet silk velvet -- luxury personified. Soft Indian White by Benjamin Moore on the living room walls.

Here are the Charles ottoman which is a Made to Measure piece and Roberts sofa which have the same feel as those in the room.

Vintage Chandelier creates a beautiful focal point in this inspiring dining room.

Phillippe Dining Table with the Syrenka Chandelier would give the same styling to a dining room.

The textures are fantastic in this bedroom, from the 1940's Italian chandelier, starburst mirror and fur blanket. Note the antique mirror on closet doors -- more texture!

Del Mar Platinum Pillow

Just in time to lighten up your home for summer, these pillows arrived at all three Ruby stores. We are all so excited by these gorgeous pillows by LA designer Barclay Butera with beautiful motifs from the Hearst Castle. The designs are silk screened, hand-pulled prints which give them a light, airy, watercolor feel printed on linen with goose down fill. They are so luxurious and fun at the same time!

You'll be relieved to hear that William Randolph Hearst — said to have been passionate about the decorative arts — is probably not tossing in his grave. Butera's redesign was done all in the name of charity, sponsored by the Friends of Hearst Castle, honoring the 50th anniversary of public access to the castle (now a State Historical Monument and a California State Park).

The Friends of Hearst Castle auctioned off "Hearst Castle Overnight" to a winning couple who could invite eight friends to swim in the Neptune Pool, play tennis, dine on the terrace, stroll the garden and enjoy an after-dinner movie in the Castle theater.

Then they went home, and the winning couple stayed overnight in the newly decorated pictured showcase room — with a view of the Pacific Ocean and furnishings by Hearst Castle licensees, among them Butera, who does upholstered pieces and pillows that are inspired by Mr. Hearst's collection.

They're a good match, the designer and the media magnate, sharing a taste for old Hollywood grandeur and glamour. Butera has owned homes that once belonged to Frank Sinatra and Bette Davis, and he was the creative director for the $25-million renovation of the L'Auberge del Mar in Del Mar, Calif., a former favorite playground of the stars.

More ordinary homeowners can also enjoy Butera's talents, if not within the splendor of Hearst Castle,

We are all so excited about our new Ruby Sarah Private Label Collection. A sneak preview of it is seen here in the Verellen factory in North Carolina, we expect it to arrive next week into our Ruby Mill Valley showroom. The collection will include a 90" sofa, 64" loveseat and chair. It will be available slipcovered or tailored and in a choice of hundreds of beautiful 100% Belgium linens or suedes. This is the first of our own product designed by Dee Dee Littrell, owner and designer of Ruby Livingdesign.

Ruby Fillmore Hosts Mitchell Gold Book Signing Event!

Hundreds attended the August 8th book signing event at Ruby Livingdesign on Fillmore Street. Mitchell Gold, acclaimed furniture designer and author of "Let's Get Comfortable" and "Crisis" was signing his latest book "The Comfortable Home: How to Invest in Your Nest and Live Well for Less". Mitchell is co-owner of the highly successful and innovative furniture company Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams, based in Hickory, NC. Ruby Livingdesign, a local home furnishings and design store with three locations in the Bay Area hosted the event. Ruby Livingdesign has carried the line for 8 years and has found that their "soft modern" style is strong on comfort and practicality and appeals to Ruby's customers. Owner of Ruby Livingdesign, Dee Dee (Ruby) Littrell, also likes the Mitchell Gold+Bob Williams company for their eco-friendly practices and technology which is applied in their factory and workplaces. Their earth-friendly foam padding is produced with a soy-based biomaterial, an abundant product provided by nature. They use extensive recycling and reduced energy consumption methods.
